The Fandom Bubble Awards

2022 March 29

Teddies #1 wins best indie comic of 2021 & The Corrupted wins best short comic of 2021

Tales Beyond was proud to bring home two huge awards from last night's Fandom Bubble Awards. The first ever FBAs are sister awards of the Independent Comic Creator Awards and the awards are selected by the fans! Tales writer/editor Kris Burgos co-hosted the show with Comix Advocate Rob AnderSiN for the hour-long virtual event, establishing winners in categories ranging from best sequential layout to best publisher and best cosplay.

The Corrupted was initially published in Comic Book School's second anthology Creator Connections: Panel Two and pulled in the win for Best 1-Shot/Short Comic of 2021. The Corrupted was written and lettered by Burgos, with pencils and inks done by the Filipino phenom Roi, who has since joined the ranks of Heavy Metal and worked on G.I. Joe for IDW. The story will be republished later this year colorized, by Argentine artist Jok, in an upcoming horror anthology by Tales Beyond.

Taking home the big award at the end of the evening for Best Indie Comix of 2021 was Teddies #1. The inaugural issue of the fantasy horror comic gained more momentum beyond its rave reviews and work on another chapter is soon to be announced. Written and lettered by Burgos, the first chapter was penciled and inked by Heavy Metal alum Jim Webb with the second by Florida cartoonist Mike Ponce. Colors for Teddies #1 were completed by 2020's award-winning artist from Ragnarok Come, JP Vilchis.
